Awareness at school

NatureOps India Foundation had organised a knowledge exam at Gnandeep High School Gamtalavkhurd in association with Social Forestry Range, Mandvi, Surat. Gnandeep High School is adjacent to the forest boundary. Students from the surrounding villages as well as from distant villages come here to study from standard 9 to 12. This was the reason for choosing this school for the exam.

The main purpose of this exam was to find out how much and what information the students have about the forest. About 100 students of each standard participated in this examination spontaneously. They were also eager to know and show how much knowledge they have on themselves. The exam asked 50 multiple choice questions which include trees, shrubs, vines, grasses and other herbaceous (non-woody) plants, mosses, algae, fungi, insects, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and microorganisms living on the plants and animals and in the soil.

The merit of each question was one. All the students scored above 30 marks. While 10 students scored above 40. The marks of the first, second and third place students were 42, 45 and 46 respectively. The winners were given incentive gifts in the form of a book and price money.

There was an awareness session before the exam. NatureOps had explained about importance of water, forest land and environment, and how they are interconnected with each other.
